Thoughts on the Yihua 936 Soldering station

This post has been pending for a really long time now. I got a soldering station as a birthday gift from a team in college that I was leading. Call it one relevant birthday gift at a time when I was increasingly growing impatient of the tiny 25W soldering iron that forced me to spend long sleepless nights waiting for it to heat up after each successful solder joint. This too can be counted as one of the good and unexpected things that 2019 had in store for me.

So Yihua is a big manufacturer based in Guangzhou, China that almost exclusively deals with soldering stations and accessories.

I did a bit of soldering with this and yep indeed it’s much much better than the soldering rod that I was using. Heats up pretty fast and almost appears to maintain a stable temperature. This is more than enough for my present needs and I’m grateful for having received it.

The only trouble I have with it is the pointed tip. It doesn’t transfer much heat and isn’t that great for normal everyday soldering where you don’t need much precision and want quick heat flow. This is great for SMD soldering but not that workable with through-hole components. But it indeed does a decent job. When I have a lot to solder, I still rely on my old 25W soldering rod and only use this for precision repair works.

Here’s Dave’s brutally honest 😅 review of the Yihua 936 Soldering station.
