Keysight U1231A Multimeter review

Now, a multimeter review is one post I was never expecting to write at least in the next couple of years. I use an old $10 multimeter that was good enough for me. After all that I’ve read and seen about multimeters, I wanted a good high-end one and was willing to wait long for it.

That wait was cut-short, quite unexpectedly by Keysight. I’d participated in their first-ever Innovation Challenge. Though I didn’t win anything in the contest, it promised a Digital Multimeter for the first 100 or so submitted entry. So ours was a team entry. When it was officially confirmed by mail that we were finally getting a multimeter, I was quite elated and I was expecting them to be sending one per team. But yet again, I was proved wrong. The people at Keysight were generous enough to send each one of us a brand new multimeter - The Keysight U1231A.

Firstly, no seriously I don’t deserve this upgrade. This is too big a thing to get for the too-small thing done. I don’t feel like I’ve done enough to earn this. I don’t ever want to get poisoned by the feeling of entitlement. I’m ever so grateful for having received this and I see it not as a result of my work but rather as a very generous gift from Keysight.❤️

So this sits on my table as a constant reminder that I’ve got to do a lot more to be worthy of the things I’m enjoying.

The hassles with the Customs department was all worth it in the end:

More of an unboxing guide this is 🤣

Removed the back panel to put in the batteries

Batteries too came included in the package

I thought there were shipping restrictions for batteries. Maybe, restrictions are only in place for the notoriously dangerous Li-ion batteries.

Took me a long while to figure out how to remove the end caps 😅

 Solid probes - I

 Has a backlit display

 And an LED flashlight too

This sophistication feels so out of place. Among my other things, it sits like an Aventador in a very tiny village. 😅
